When you decide to write a blog you are making a commitment that’s going to take up your time, energy, and brainpower. Before starting a blog you need to be clear on what it is you want to achieve, your blog’s purpose, and the value you hope to bring by putting your content out there.

Many people believe that writing a blog is easy, but maintaining a blog that’s actually useful, and gets the results you want is far from it. So if you want to make sure that your blog works for you, here are some tips to help you:

Create blog posts with goals in mind

Before you start any blog post you should ask yourself what you hope to achieve by writing it. Once you have a specific goal in mind then construct your blog so that you achieve it. Writing posts arbitrarily without doing this will result in a blog that lacks purpose and doesn’t help further your position.

Think about what will engage your audience

Your posts need to reach an audience, and when they do they need to engage their interest so they will want to find out more and associate your brand with value. Research your target reader and then write with them in mind.

Write like you talk

Keeping your posts conversational is usually the way you’ll engage your readers most easily. There are, of course, some exceptions. Generally speaking though by making your posts friendly and accessible, you’ll reach the most readers.

Emphasise your point more than once

While being super repetitive is likely to bore your readers, if you have a point to make, make it more than once. Whatever your central point of argument is, make sure that you state it clearly, back it up, and repeat it to really drive it home.

Give your audience something to walk away with

At the end of your post, don’t leave your readers hanging. Direct them to more content, link them to your sales page, ask for their content info. A clear CTA at the end of the post will help ensure you reach your goals.

Use data and research to make your post more credible

Where possible, hard facts are impressive and will make your post seem more authoritative. If you can’t find facts, try to use examples to explain your points more clearly.

At a certain point, you just need to publish!

Remember, writing a well-researched, thoroughly edited article is important, but there has to be a point where you let go of your perfectionist tendencies and just publish – don’t overthink it – the more content you get out there, the better.

By using the above as a guide, you can ensure that your blog posts are effective and achieve your pre-determined goals – good luck!
